Since I’m working on research vessels all over the world, I’m somewhat limited in planning a season and taking time off whenever I want. Ok, the company I work for is very flexible with me and that’s one of the reasons I like to work for them, besides the interesting work we do and challenging job I have! At the end of 2019 and after some emails up and down, they agreed to the periods that I’d like to be free in 2020.
So, what’s (part of) the plan for next year?
On 7 June 2020, I’ll be competing in the Ironman 70.3 race in Subic Bay, Philippines!!!
I’m really looking forward to experiencing a race in Asia. This will be my first time in the Philippines and Asia actually! I know it can (will) be quite warm in that period of the year, very humid and a lot of sunshine. So I need to prepare myself, acclimatize well and be very fit in time for race day!
The race will start from the waterfront in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone in the city Olongapo and the 2 loop bike route will go over the Express Freeway to the north with a total elevation gain/loss of over 1,000m height! That’s going to be fun đŸ™‚ A couple of steep climbs with a max slope of over 15% but in between the climbs some false-flat sections. The running will be a one-loop run course along the bay to the Subic Bay airport, just southeast of the town.
More to come about Ironman 70.3 Subic Bay and the rest of my triathlon year 2020 plans!
But first, it will be training in the winter of 2019 and having to work a few projects again!
