In the last 8 months, I’ve been working a lot. Several long projects abroad with just a few weeks time off in between. The projects were quite tough but with good teams on board, we managed to make good progress and complete important sections of the projects. Third week of June I came home and I’ll be off for a long period of time. In this period I’ll be ramping up my swim, bike, and run trainings and get ready for the upcoming triathlon season!
In November 2023, I flew to Singapore to  start with a project in Malaysia. The first week we were still in port preparing the project and I had some time for a couple of runs through the parks along the waterfront. It was hot and humid!
After completing the first few months of the project, I few home for a couple of weeks. Almost directly I drove to Austria to go skiing! From over 30 degrees Celsius to freezing temperatures! What a change! I stayed in the city of Innsbruck, where I used to live for a few years, and really enjoyed the skiing. From Innsbruck I went every day to a different ski area, for instance Axamer Lizum (local Innsbruck skiing area), Ischgl/Samnaun, Schlick 2000, Kuhtai/Hoch Oetz, Sankt Anton am Arlberg, and Hochfuegen. I ate too many apfelstrudel with vanille sauce!
After that I flew back to Malaysia to continue the project. Everything went ok in the end and I disembarked in Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia where I was able to do a quick sightseeing. The famous temple but also the old city center of Georgetown with its Chinese influence.
Again a couple of weeks at home in which I was able to ramp up my training and felt that I was an athlete again! Not for long because in April I flew to Tunisia for my last project of 2024.
After a few weeks we made a port call to Valletta, Malta, to swap some of the team. Luckily I was able to go for a run because we don’t have a treadmill on board of this vessel. After the couple of days in port, it was time for the last months working!
Back in Valletta, Malta, and I went for a run with a colleague. It was hot but the route brought us along the old British defense wall: the Victoria lines trails. A long wall with many stairs up and down. Several defense towers and it was great to do this run.
A well-deserved night rest in the Radisson Blue St. Julian’s hotel and the following day I flew home. The weeds in my garden were about a meter high but some of the new planted plants were growing rapidly, like a few kiwi fruit plants!
Now, it’s time to slowly ramp-up my training again!
